1. DEFINITION OF A FUNCTION:
http://archives.math.utk.edu/visual.calculus/0/functions.11/index.html
(Click of "Discussion", using Flash and each of the 4 representations of functions. Also do the domain questions (#1-5) in the drill and check your answers)
2. TYPES OF FUNCTIONS:
http://id.mind.net/~zona/mmts/functionInstitute/functionInstitute.html
Complete the sections on:
Linear functions: click on " slope-intercept" and "point -slope" forms, click on "you control" and change the values and watch how the graphs change.
Polynomial functions - click on Definition, roots, synthetic division. For the graphs, change constants a-f for polynomials of degrees 0 to 5 and watch how the graph changes.
Problem to solve: find the values for a degree 4 polynomial so the graph looks like the letter "W"
Rational functions - click on definition and a simple rational function: 1/x and its transformations (Let a = 1 and b=1 and move sliders for h,and k and watch how graph changes.)
3. MATH GALLERY - TEST ON FUNCTIONS
:http://www.univie.ac.at/future.media/moe/tests/fun1/erkennen.html
(Drag the equation to the correct graph. Try at least 3 sets of problems)
4. LESSON ON LOGS:
http://www.themathpage.com/aPreCalc/logarithms.htm
(Read the notes and the examples and try the practice problems)
5. TRANSFORMATIONS OF FUNCTIONS:
http://www.purplemath.com/modules/fcntrans.htm
(Read through each of the four pages of this site until you can do the transformations on your own.)
6. TRIGONOMETRY:
http://www.univie.ac.at/future.media/moe/galerie/fun2/fun2.html#sincostan
Click on the applet: Graphs of sin, cos and tan. Review the shapes of the graphs and the amplitude and period.. Then click on the applet: Recognize Functions 3 and match equations to graphs. Try at least 2 sets of graphs. Next click on the applet: Recognize Graphs 3 and drag the equations to each graph. Try at least 2 sets of graphs
